Break-Fast
Breakfast literally means to "break the fast." Each morning when you wake up you are basically getting a clean slate to get it right. It is considered by some to be the most important meal of the day and I would have to agree. Breakfast is the first opportunity to improve your nutrient intake. Eating a well-balanced meal within the first 2 hours after being awake gives your body a head start to consume the appropriate nutrients for the day.
Benefits of a Well Balanced Breakfast:
Weight Control
Eating breakfast is consistently linked to weight control. When you eat breakfast it helps stabilize your body’s glucose level, which keeps your hunger under control. Spikes in glucose cause an increase in appetite and binge eating, making less healthy choices with higher fat/calorie content to satisfy hunger. A nutrient dense meal is far better than skipping this meal; it gives your metabolism a kick-start so that it can work efficiently all day. Skipping breakfast sends the message to your body that it needs to conserve energy, which can slow down your metabolism, causing a decrease in the amount of calories you burn.
Brain Activity
Mental health is highly correlated to eating a healthy breakfast, especially for children. Studies have shown that children who eat a good breakfast typically have higher grades in school. For adults, breakfast supplies the nutrients needed that help with memory. The foods you eat will also help retrieve and send information to the rest of the body.
What to Eat
Most of us either do not feel hungry first thing in the morning or we are rushing out the door with no time to eat a proper meal. I would suggest prepping the night before. Make a batch of hard-boiled eggs that you can easily grab and go or prepare a smoothie with the NutriBulet. It is super quick and can travel with you. There are also many oatmeals that are quick and easy to make in less than 5 minutes, you can even soak it the night before for a cold version. I personally like breakfast and would prefer to wake up a little earlier to enjoy it.
Breakfast is just one integral part of healthy eating and nutrition, but it certainly is a good starting point. Starting the morning off right with help to keep your energy high and avoid an afternoon lull.
So eat up and POWER through your day!!!
